BCACC - Registered Clinical Counsellor

A half-Indigenous half-European person is smiling and standing with one hand in pocket of their jeans in front of a light gray sofa and paintings. She is wearing a black turtleneck, abstract shirt jacket, black leather pants.

I am a compassionate and non-judgmental, Registered Clinical Counsellor living and working on the Unceded and traditional territories of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. I am Splatsin First Nations and European and I am committed to helping decolonize the field of counselling and to create a healing space for BIPOC individuals to heal from intergenerational trauma.

Why I do this work

Growing up, I also struggled with my mental health, especially anxiety, concerning society’s expectations, my expectations and my identity. I am a fierce believer in the power of therapy, and I find myself crediting my life to it. My history has therefore led me to want to dedicate my life to the helping profession and helping others to reclaim their own lives.

In my work, I walk alongside you. I feel incredibly honoured to be able to be a part of your healing journey and to help be an advocate for you. Being a white-passing First Nations counsellor, I identify the privileges that come with that and the numerous limitations, barriers and structures that BIPOC and other marginalized communities face. I am always trying to be the best ally and support I can be. I strive to create a space where my clients feel they can take their masks off, be themselves and truly breathe.

My approach

I work from a strengths-based and trauma-informed client-centred approach. I believe that you know yourself best, and I am working alongside you to help you come to greater insights and understanding about who you are as a person and encouraging you to become the version of yourself you want to be. I specialize in trauma and have worked in the field of addiction for the past eight years and work from a harm reduction approach. I also work with individuals struggling with life changes, anxiety, depression, and relationship and family concerns. I am also passionate about working with individuals who have been harmed by the various structures at play in our society, such as ableism, racism, heterosexism, colonialization and the patriarchy. It can be very challenging talking about our inner experiences and world, and I want to applaud you for taking the first step to come to counselling.
